Services, parades and ceremonies are being held across the city to mark Remembrance, pay tribute to the Armed Forces and to remember all victims of conflict.

The services will be attended by civic leaders with all events open to members of public who wish to attend.

Remembrance events begin on Thursday 5 November and will continue until Wednesday 11 November, which marks Armistice Day.

Armistice Day is marked around the United Kingdom with a two-minute silence at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month to commemorate the agreement to end the fighting of the First World War.

If you’re planning to travel to a Remembrance event using the train, please be aware engineering work is taking place between Brighton and Worthing stations over the weekend on 7 and 8 November, with buses will replacing all trains. Journey times will increase, so please check before you travel using the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner. Paper train tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on Brighton & Hove bus routes 1,2,6,7,46 and 49.

Both Brighton & Hove Buses and Stagecoach will also be offering free travel on Remembrance Sunday (8 November) and Armistice Day (11 November) for veterans and serving military personnel on carrying their valid military or veterans’ ID card.

Councillor Amanda Grimshaw, Armed Forces Champion for Brighton & Hove, said: “It is an honour to mark Remembrance each year and take time to remember those who lost their lives in war and conflict, enduring unimaginable hardship in the hope that their loved ones and future generations could live in safety.

“Remembrance is an opportunity for people of all faiths, cultures and backgrounds to come together in gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who served, and in hope for a more peaceful future.

“In Brighton & Hove, we will also take this opportunity to recognise and support members of our community who serve in the Armed Forces and Reserves.

“I invite everyone to join a local Remembrance event, or simply take a quiet moment to reflect on those who gave their lives to protect others, and to remember the devastating impact of war, hatred and division.”
