Award-winning writer and performer, Georgia Polly-Taylor is set to make her debut at this year’s Brighton Fringe with her eccentric comedy show, GEORGIA POLLY-TAYLOR: VERY HOT VERY MESSY. Winner of the Brighton Fringe 2026 Cabaret and Variety Bursary, this alternative character-comedy and one-woman spectacle delights in clowning, balloon-modelling, lip-syncing, stand-up, burlesque and improvisation. We find wannabe socialite-model ‘Hot Mess’ at her first ever MET Gala where poses are struck, bowels are loose and dreams are crushed faster than you can say nepotism. After a VERY public embarrassment on what was meant to be the night of her dreams, Hot Mess goes on a journey through the drains of shame and self-discovery to find her place in the world. Part absurd clown, part catwalk diva: Georgia Polly-Taylor’s uniquely silly, sassy and sexy character celebrates the often disastrous reality of being human.
The show has received critical acclaim thus far, with 5-Star reviews from The Obscurity, Lou Reviews and Everything Theatre who wrote ‘A show with a bright future… Polly-Taylor is mesmerising. Spectacular physical comedy’. It was awarded an Ettie for Best of The Camden Fringe 2025 from Everything Theatre, and two Fringe Theatre Awards 25/26 for Best Direction and Best Solo Performance. Upon seeing the show, Playwright Mark Ravenhill described is as ‘steamy, very funny…and deeply disturbing in places’
Polly-Taylor’s eclectic talents fuse classic character comedy with her circus skillset – resulting in an on-stage identity akin to an hallucinogenic Victoria Wood. Her work finds humour in what it means to be a woman in the public eye, dancing with the dissonant duality of perfection and authenticity. Taking unfiltered inspiration from her experience living with chronic illness GEORGIA POLLY-TAYLOR: VERY HOT. VERY MESSY. takes you on a grungy gondola trip through the kaleidoscopic sewers of Hollywood, clashing social taboos with the ozempic-fuelled Barbie beauty standards re-emerging in the public consciousness. About the show Polly-Taylor says,
‘You may get confused, you will be surprised and you should be ready and willing to get a little weird.’
Director Nancy Hannigan said,
‘Georgia is a natural clown, she satirises the grotesqueness of performed femininity. Being in the rehearsal room with her is a joyful process of taking daftness seriously and pursuing whatever makes us truly belly-laugh. We celebrate being raw and ridiculous despite what people might think’.
The show will be performed on Wednesday 27th May at Brighton’s independent and award-winning comedy venue, Komedia.
Created and Performed by Georgia Polly-Taylor.
Directed and Co-produced by Nancy Hannigan.
