In his first interviews since the speculation over a muted move to a top 6 club this summer, Yves Bissouma has indicated that a transfer is still very much a possibility in the coming months.

The midfielder has been arguably Brighton’s star player since his move to the AMEX, providing scintillating displays so far this season as the club finds itself occupying fourth position after four wins in just five matches played.

Speaking on the speculation, Bissouma indicated that he believed it may not yet be his time to go now, but that the time to leave will come where he will need to seek a higher standard.

Like every player, his desire to play Champions League football means that he is very unlikely to achieve that with Brighton, with his dream to compete and be considered among the best in the world meaning that only the biggest clubs will satisfy his ambitions.

The 25-year-old Mali international was believed to have been scouted by all of the top four clubs and was expected to have left this summer.

With only two years left on his current contract, Brighton faces the prospect of either selling him within the next year to make a significant profit on the £15 million fee they paid to Lille back in 2018, or possibly losing him for nothing when it expires in 2023.

Manager Graham Potter has refused to discuss speculation on where his linchpins’ future may lie, with the speculation having now just become part of everyday life rather than a cause for concern.

Instead, he notes the positives of having such voices showing that when someone talks about a team and its players, then they are obviously doing something well.

With time of the essence before his contract may expire, and there being no current circumstance which dictates that he would consider signing a new one, Yves Bissouma looks very likely to move next summer to a team that will have significantly strengthened its midfield engine.
