A 24-year-old online fitness coach has set his sights on another gruelling fitness challenge just weeks after running his first ultra marathon. Having achieved multiple feats last year including a half Ironman (Ironman 70.3), a marathon and an ultra marathon, Gus Mallett from the Elm Grove area in Brighton, now plans to tackle a full Ironman in Vietnam in a couple of months time.
The Ironman in Da Nang, which consists of a 3.8 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile swim, will be Gus’ biggest challenge to date.
That said, the 24-year-old, who racked up more than 1,000 kilometres of running in 2025, is taking it all in his stride. He said:
“On a weekly basis I’m inspired by the incredible dedication and discipline my clients show in pursuit of their goals. I strongly believe I should challenge myself to the same standard and taking on an Ironman later this year is a true reflection of that mindset.
“I feel incredibly privileged to help transform lives around the world. What began as a passion developed in the gyms of Brighton has grown into my career and I’m deeply grateful for that journey.”
Having been a personal trainer for six years Gus moved to Bali and founded his online coaching business in April 2024.
Since then he has helped more than 80 people achieve their fitness goals. This includes Black Phoenix, 35, from Brighton who has gone from gym novice to gym enthusiast over the course of just seven months – achieving a six-pack along the way.
Discussing his transformation, Mr Phoenix said:
“I can’t thank Gus enough for all of the support and guidance he’s provided me with. I wanted to get into shape before going on holiday to Ibiza and I was blown away by the transformation I was able to make.
“I went to Ibiza in the best shape of my life and feeling the most confident I ever have. Up until the point of working with Gus I hadn’t consistently been going to the gym. It just goes to show what’s possible when you’re disciplined and have the right support around you.”
With many Brits using January as a month to kickstart fitness journeys of their own, Gus is encouraging people to focus on sustainable routines they can stick to across a full year rather than resorting to quick fixes. Gus said:
“The common mistake I see people making is that they implement a diet that cuts out all of the foods they enjoy which makes it a very difficult diet to maintain.
“I’d encourage anyone looking to achieve a fitness goal to implement a training and nutrition plan which is realistic and enjoyable but also aligned with their goal. By doing this, you’ll create a routine that is both effective and sustainable over an extended period of time.”
