Writers-performers BrothersBroke return to Brighton Fringe to premier their new show exploring the relationship and writing styles of Lennon and McCartney as Beatles and x-Beatles:
Brothers Broke are back live at Brighton Fringe to premier their new earnest and engaging acoustic in-person performance of Lennon and McCartney tracks.
Unique to this performance is the duo’s choice and presentation of songs to help analyse this world-famous song writing partnership. When did Lennon/McCartney become Lennon and McCartney? The show considers the evolving relationship between the two composers, exploring influence, competition and respect.
The brothers’ acoustic and chilled presentation enhances and supports the story of the various methods and genius behind this song writing partnership. The Brothers’ chilled down harmony-dominated medley of “Things We Said Today” and “I’ll be Back” exemplifies the early days of Lennon and McCartney writing “nose to nose”. In contrast, later individual Lennon and McCartney compositions were merged together to produce classic Lennon/McCartney productions, and the brothers elaborate on this point in the lead up to a raw performance of “I’ve Got a Feeling” – a McCartney penned script that started a year earlier as a Lennon song titled “Everybody had a Hard Year”. The show also delves into the songs of Lennon and McCartney in their post-Beatles era.
This show is informative, appealing and charismatic in its offering of subtle ‘sibling’ harmonies supported by acoustic blues and folk guitar and harmonica, adding musical personality and character by way of interpretation of the songs. It’s obvious that these boys love The Beatles (and x-Beatles), and if you savour Lennon and McCartney, appreciate a casual acoustic blues/folk style, you should relish the opportunity to see and hear this duo’s interpretations.
