Brighton and Crystal Palace played out a tense 0–0 draw at the Amex, with plenty of possession for the home side but few clear moments of incision. The rivalry’s usual edge was present, but the game’s rhythm often stalled in the final third, leaving both teams to settle for a point that neither will feel transforms their season.
Brighton Control the Ball, but Breakthrough Eludes Them
Brighton, under manager Fabian Hürzeler, again demonstrated their commitment to structured build-up play and composure in possession. Billy Gilmour and Pascal Groß rotated efficiently through midfield, dictating tempo and drawing Palace deeper into their defensive block.
But while Brighton moved the ball cleanly and spent long stretches in Palace territory, they lacked the sharpness needed around the box. Evan Ferguson struggled to find space between centre-backs, and while Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra carried threat from wide areas, the decisive pass rarely materialised.
Palace Compact and Patient
Crystal Palace were disciplined throughout, setting up in a mid-to-low block and picking their moments to counter. With Marc Guéhi and Joachim Andersen outstanding at the back, Palace handled Brighton’s probing approach play with calmness.
Going forward, Eberechi Eze offered the visitors’ most composed midfield outlet, and one sweeping break in the second half forced Bart Verbruggen into a smart save from Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Key Chances, No Finish
Brighton’s best moments came after the hour mark. Mitoma curled just wide from inside the box, and Lewis Dunk came close from a set-piece — a header that skimmed over the bar and drew a collective groan from the home crowd. Palace might have stolen it late when Michael Olise slid Mateta into space, but Jan Paul van Hecke recovered brilliantly.
Analysis
For Brighton, this was a continuation of a familiar theme:
controlled performance, intelligent structure, but lacking final-third clarity.
For Palace, the clean sheet and organised defensive display will feel like a foundation to build on — not glamorous, but effective.
