The NHS is urging local people and visitors to use the Brighton Station Health Centre for treatment for minor illnesses and injuries, helping free up emergency care services for those most in need this Christmas.
Winter is expected to be extremely difficult for the NHS across the country, especially on A&E departments and GP surgeries as they cope with increasing numbers of people seeking treatment.
To help ease this pressure on local services, the NHS is urging people with minor infections and rashes, fractures and lacerations, stomach upsets, superficial cuts and bruises, minor burns and strains to visit Brighton Station Health Centre for treatment.
There is no need to be a registered patient or to make an appointment to use the walk-in centre and it offers quick treatment close to home from 8am-8pm in the city centre.
Dr David Supple, Brighton GP and Chair of NHS Brighton and Hove CCG, said: “If you need urgent care that is not an emergency this Xmas, you can get treated quickly without an appointment at Brighton Station Health Centre. Research shows more than 20 extra people a week are already choosing to help ease pressure on NHS emergency services and GPs by using the service compared to last year.
“The NHS is doing everything it can to prepare for the extra winter pressures we expect to face, now we are calling the public to action through the HelpMyNHS campaign to ensure they access the right service for their needs at the right time.”
A website at www.sussexhelpmy.nhs.uk highlights the all the available alternatives to A&E visits or GP appointments, and has searchable listings on the most appropriate services available across Sussex to treat a range of illness and injuries.
Right Here Brighton & Hove are hosting an interactive engagement and information event for anyone aged 25 or under about the future of the NHS in the UK.
If you, or somebody you know, cares about the future of the NHS as it goes through a period of unprecedented uncertainty and underfunding, then this is an event worth shouting about.
Organisers have been asking young people across the city what they are most concerned about when it comes to the future of our National Health Service. This mini-conference has been called especially for young people to meet the decision makers and talk about what matters to them, as well as how they would like to be consulted in the future about healthcare.
The event is designed for those in attendance to join in sharing ideas and opinions on key NHS issues, to hear more from doctors and NHS managers about how they see the future unfolding, and to meet likeminded young people from across Brighton.
The event will be full of activities, freebies, food and drink, and will offer those in attendance the chance to learn about opportunities to have a say and get involved in steering the NHS towards a brighter and better future.
Let’s stand together and figure out ways in which we can bring the NHS back from the brink so that we, and future generations, can benefit from top-quality free healthcare for years to come.
