Jobcentre work coaches are working hard to help employers fill their vacancies and support people, whatever their situation, into their jobs.

Eloise Cornish, Disability & Employment Advisor Leader for Brighton & Hove Jobcentre said: “Jobseekers looking to move forward in their career will find the inspiration and support they need at their local jobcentre. Developing a relationship with their work coaches can prove extremely beneficial to set them on the right path, taking into account their personal circumstances.  Underpinning this our specialist employer partnership teams are working with businesses to identify, help fill their vacancies and put them in contact with suitable candidates”.

At Brighton & Hove Jobcentre we hold regular recruitment events to help people find their next job. Employer Advisors and Disability Employment Advisors work closely with work coaches to help jobseekers take their next steps.

Employer Advisors provide local businesses with a free, bespoke recruitment service, matching jobseekers to their vacancies. Recent successes include partnerships with major brands like Dunelm, G4S, and the NHS.

We are trialling innovative methods to connect people with opportunities, such as career discovery events. For example, our “Get into Childcare” session allows employers to pitch their sector’s benefits directly to jobseekers, followed by brief interviews on the spot. These events have been highly successful, with many more planned.

A recent discovery fair for young jobseekers, aged 18 to 25, saw attendees engage with different employers offering an exciting variety of roles, ranging from Barista to IT & Digital apprenticeships. Additionally, ongoing recruitment days with the NHS have led to hundreds of jobseekers securing roles in hospitals across Surrey and Sussex.

Disability Employment Advisors are also making strides, making an impact by raising awareness of the Disability Confident Scheme and hosting quarterly Ability Fairs, where employers are eager to hire individuals with health conditions, recognising their unique value to the workforce.
