Brighton & Hove Albion produced a composed, clinical display to beat Leeds United yesterday, reaffirming their steady form under head coach Fabian Hürzeler. In front of a lively crowd at the Amex Stadium, Brighton’s mixture of precision passing and disciplined pressing proved too much for a Leeds side still struggling to adapt to top-flight tempo following their promotion.

The home side started brightly, dictating possession with their familiar fluid shape. Mahmoud Dahoud and Billy Gilmour controlled midfield, drawing Leeds into traps before releasing the ball into the wide channels. Kaoru Mitoma, returning to form after a spell out with injury, was instrumental in breaking Leeds down, tormenting the right flank and repeatedly stretching the defence. The breakthrough arrived midway through the first half when João Pedro met a low cross from Mitoma, steering it past Illan Meslier with a crisp first-time finish.

Leeds briefly threatened on the counter through Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, but their moves often broke down in the final third. The visitors’ approach — built around energy and directness — was blunted by Brighton’s organisation. Lewis Dunk, calm and assured at the back, marshalled his line effectively while goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen was largely untested until late on.

Brighton doubled their lead shortly after the interval. A sweeping move from back to front culminated in Pervis Estupiñán overlapping and cutting the ball back for substitute Simon Adingra, who finished smartly at the near post. Leeds tried to respond by introducing more attacking options, but their midfield lacked cohesion. Brighton, by contrast, looked balanced and confident, rotating possession with the ease of a side accustomed to dictating rhythm in Premier League contests.

Leeds grabbed a late consolation when Patrick Bamford converted from close range after a defensive lapse, yet it was little more than a reminder of their resilience rather than a genuine comeback. Brighton saw out the final minutes in control, their supporters applauding a performance that combined technical fluency with tactical discipline.

The result moves Brighton comfortably into the upper half of the table, maintaining momentum in what has been a quietly impressive campaign. Leeds, meanwhile, will need to find greater control and composure if they are to turn spirited performances into points. For Brighton, this was another demonstration that their footballing identity — intelligent, possession-based and fearless — continues to serve them well at the highest level.
