It’s that time of year again, when the scarves you never knew existed get unearthed from the bottom of the wardrobe and those oversized winter coats that make you waddle from side to side and slightly resemble the Michelin Man, make a glorious return.

Yes, we’ve entered the crisp, cold, lemsip-fuelled season of Autumn that makes everyone want to curl up in bed and hibernate until Christmas dinner is on the table. Nevertheless, I took to none other than Brighton’s style hub, North Laine, to get some fashion inspiration on why I shouldn’t spend the whole of October in a dressing gown.

Anna

Flower girl chic: Anna says “Anyone and everything is my style inspo!”

First up, was lovely Anna searching for some flowers to brighten up the dreary weather. Anna teamed a russet brown Corduroy jacket from Primark with classic black cigarette trousers from Monki, and a fluffy black snood. She finished the look off with her trusty Dr Martens. Her must have items for Autumn and Winter are “something orange” she exclaims, “and definitely corduroy!”. I finished with asking Anna where she gets most of her style inspiration from: “Anyone and everything is my inspo! I get my inspiration just from looking at everyone out here in Brighton”.

Matchy matchy: Anonymous trendy couple get their style inspo from each other

This trendy duo told me that they love to source their clothes from shops that are off-the-beaten track. Anonymous-trendy-man told us that he bought his black harem pants all the way from India. He teamed them with army boots, a grey organic sweatshirt from the Open Market and a patterned paisley scarf for a splash of colour. Anonymous-trendy-girl said her baroque-inspired funky leggings were from H&M, which she paired with a cream cable-knit jumper and a black turtleneck for a preppy Autumn look. What would they say is their fashion staple for this Autumn/Winter season? “Scarves! And lots of them”. Finally, when asked where they get their style inspiration from most, they both laugh and say at the same time “Definitely each other!”.

Hayden

Ziggy Stardust: Hayden says his ultimate style icon has to be the late David Bowie

Last but not least on my little afternoon hunt in the lanes for Brighton’s Street Style, I met Hayden rummaging through the Vintage gems in Snooper’s Paradise. Looking effortlessly cool in a pale yellow shirt handmade by his Grandma and trousers sourced from a vintage store in Camden, Hayden explains “A lot of my clothes are very Seventies-influenced. David Bowie has to be my ultimate style icon”. What’s his must have Autumn/Winter item? “Definitely a raincoat. I need to get one – I don’t have any!”. Hayden confirms that come rain or shine this season, retro-style dressing proves to be as stylish as ever and what better influence than from iconic past decades in fashion history.

Look out for next week’s Brighton Street Style for more inspiration this Autumn!
