It was three goals in five minutes for Arsenal to set the tone of the game, after a lacklustre first half ended goalless. Match Report by Ava Feldman

Frida Maanum opened the scoring with a gifted goal, after Brighton’s Melina Loeck’s goal kick found the feet of Mariona Caldentey who pass set up Maanum with an open goal.

Only three minutes later, a driven cross by Alessia Russo split the Seagull’s defence and skipper Katie McCabe tucked it away to put the Gunners 2-0 up.

Caldentey’s Player of the Match performance after a second-half substitution displayed her impressive impact, with a second assist the Spaniard passed to Kyra Cooley-Cross whose exceptional strike fired into the top-right corner.

Brighton offered few chances throughout the game, with only two shots in 90 minutes. The Seagulls defensive line held together for the first half, with Arsenal’s attackers finding themselves offside regularly.

With an attendance of 2115 at Broadfield Stadium, Arsenal’s inspired substitution took advantage of Loeck’s poor positioning and highlighted her range with an elegant chip to make it 4-0 to the visitors.

Dario Vidosic attempted to relight the spark for Brighton, with substitutions, as Nikita Parris entered the pitch looking to find the net against her old club.

The Gunner’s dominant win mean they will move on in the competition and play Manchester City in the semi-finals.

Brighton’s next home game will see the Seagulls face Durham in the fourth round of the FA Women’s Cup on Wednesday 29 January at Broadfield Stadium. Before that, they travel North to play Manchester United in the WSL on Sunday 26 January.
