Brighton’s January Wish List

With just three weeks until the January transfer reopens for teams globally, the need to replenish and upgrade the starting 11’s of every team has begun in the hopes that some may gain titles and promotions, whilst others look to avoid the threat of relegation.

For Brighton, there is a need to find a way to reinvigorate a team that looked so promising with hopes of European football dreaming, yet who now faces the prospect of a standard mid table finish.

The first look to solve the current winless streak is towards the defensive options. With Shane Duffy out for the rest of the year, and Ben White never quite being replaced in the heart of the defence, a new centre back could provide valuable to the seagulls.

The main name mentioned is Spurs’ Joe Rodon, formerly of Swansea City who was once very highly regarded but now is seen as more of a backup option in Antonio Conte’s current line-up.

At 24, Rodon has still to reach his full potential and comes with valuable Premier League experience that will only grow as the defender looks for a move that will see him gain more game time and that would be possible at the AMEX Stadium.

The other key consideration is the long-standing search for a striker to help convert the high number of created chances into goals.

While Neal Maupay may be showing signs of the form that made him unstoppable at Brentford, there still lacks a more lethal goal threat that may take the team to the next level.

Whilst summer saw Darwin Nunez linked and that could still yet be revisited, a name being considered is said to be Canadian international striker Cyle Larin.

Besiktas striker Larin has contributed four goals and one assist in 12 appearances, with only 8 of those being starts.

However, his record for his country stands at an impressive 22 goals in 44 games and is attracting much Premier League interest considering that he can leave for free in the summer and sign a pre contract agreement from January.

Daniel Jebbison, a Sheffield United prospect is also a name considered, however this would much more likely be a developmental move.
