Local Brighton publication The Argus has discovered that our own city centre of Brighton ranks as one of the most crime filled and dangerous neighbourhoods across the entire United Kingdom.
The paper scoured through over three million crime reports to analyse and discover who across the entire nation was responsive for the most criminal acts and therefore home to hotspots regarding criminal activity.
The analysis undertaken has proven that overall, Brighton ranks in the top 10, with the LSOA ranking a staggering 8th out of over 33,000 possible locations contained in the works.
This means that they rank much higher than many major cities considered to be a home to crime such as Leeds, Blackpool and Southampton.
Further insight by Sussex Police shows that in the survey period, there was hundreds of violent or sexual offences and nearly 1800 crime reports over six months, with only 1623 actual people living there based off of the 2011 census.
In terms of the entire city landscape, Brighton ranks 62nd out of 340 authorities in terms of crime.
In response, Sussex Police indicate that this area is very much a nightlife and entertainment environment that has much less actual residents than other communities within the city.
There is also believed to be a distortion due to the fact that there is a much different perceived population now compared to the make up of the city 10 years ago.
These findings however do not change the stance on the city, and that it is a safe and enjoyable environment within which to live and work safely and effectively.
There was previous concern after Old Steine Gardens was noted as a very dangerous area after claims it had become a war zone filled with drugs and conflict. This is an issue that has been since designated as an important area to help reduce crime and seek to make it more liveable for the residents.
