Brighton and Hove’s most popular baby names in 2018 have been revealed as Arthur and Olivia.
Of the 1302 baby boys born in Brighton last year 21 were called Arthur. Of the 1219 baby girls, 20 were called Olivia.
Arthur was the 7th most popular name in the UK, but ranked top in Brighton. The name is having a resurgence in popularity, having last been in fashion in the early 1900s.
The ONS suggested this could be linked to the popularity of the TV show Peaky Blinders. Cillian, the name of the lead actor Cillian Murphy, has also been increasing in popularity, rising 295 places in the last five years.
Brighton aligned with the rest of the UK in the girls’ name category, as Olivia was the most popular girls’ name nationwide.
