Open mic nights offer an insight into the diversity of talents Brighton has on offer. Venues across all areas celebrate these arts, and Brighton Journal has collated some of the best venues presenting the city’s artists. Whether you’re a budding singer-songwriter looking for a platform or an avid fan of live music, there are plenty of free, weekly open mic nights to attend around the city.

The White Rabbit, North Laine

Situated in the heart of the North Laine, The White Rabbit welcomes a variety of acts including acoustic music, poetry readings, and even comedy performances.  As an incentive, performers are offered a free drink with drinks deals for the rest of the evening. The venue also offers reverb effects and a guitar for musicians to use. Make sure you arrive early to reserve a slot or to get a good seat to view the stage.

Every Wednesday, 8pm until 11pm.

This weekly event invites all talents to perform their art in a friendly, warm environment. If you can muster up the courage to take to the stage, there is a free drink for every performer and a prize for the best act of the night. The Hampton also offers opportunities for live karaoke and for musicians to come together and collaborate in jam sessions.

Every Tuesday, 9pm until 11pm.

The Gladstone promises a friendly atmosphere and good sound, welcoming performers of all abilities to try out their talent, perhaps for the first time. The big, yellow pub also offers local ales for those interested in trying drinks from around the Sussex area and serve food from the grill to accommodate for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters.
