Schools across the UK have closed in a bid to send a message to the Conservative government regarding the shrinking budget to education.

Both parents and teachers are taking action in an attempt to reverse eight years of slashes to the budget, which they believe will affect their children’s future.

Along with images of the protest in London, numerous photographs are being posted on social media of children doing headstands to show support for their headteachers.

According to Save Our Schools, 25 headteachers from schools around Brighton and Hove closed their school to campaign in London to improve the situation they believed has dramatically worsened for almost a decade.

Concerns from headteachers have arisen surrounding increased classroom sizes, weakened support for special needs and pastoral services, staff cuts, and restrictions to the curriculum.

It is believed around 2,000 people have joined the march today despite recent claims from the government that school funding will rise to record heights of £43.5bn in two years.
