Reflecting on this week’s first ever National Refill Day, it has become more important than ever to reduce single use plastic waste as ocean wildlife faces a crippling amount of damage. Brighton and Hove joined the Refill Revolution just over a year ago, resulting in over 200 free water refill points in the city.
Refill Brighton and Hove arises as part of a nationwide scheme that aims to encourage people to drink tap water, as well as make reusable water bottles as convenient as possible to refill. The campaign ensures that hundreds of ‘Refill Stations’ are accessible around the city in coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and some participating stores. The best part? People can fill their bottles with tap water without any obligation to spend money.
Businesses that participate in the Refill scheme and show their support for saving the oceans, are easily spotted to the public by a sticker in their window. Alternatively, free downloadable app available from refill.org.uk shows exact locations of refill points all over Brighton and Hove, including publicly accessible mains water taps (such as the ones on The Level and Hove beach huts).

According to research, people in the world throw away over almost four million tonnes of plastic waste a day. Consequently, this has a dramatic affect on marine environment, posing a threat to the functioning of eco systems. Brighton and Hove, a seaside town, are doing their level best to inform residents and visitors about the benefits of recycling.
