The annual Opsafe Homeless March will take place this Saturday, an event in which coffins will be carried through the city calling for more action to tackle the rising homelessness problem in Sussex. Campaigners will be walking through Brighton and will include memorials to the homeless who have tragically lost their lives in the past 12 months. There will also be speeches criticising Worthing council following the decision to fine the street homeless.
The march will begin along North Street towards Brighton Town Hall in which they will hand in a petition calling for more action. There will also be more speeches by groups including the Worthing People’s Assembly and the Love Activists, a Brighton-based campaign group. The march will resume along Ship Street to the Clock Tower where there will be the memorial service in which people will lay wreaths and flowers. The march will continue, finally ending at The Peace Statue where there will be more speeches, a street kitchen provided by outreach and then there will be music performances.
