In 1979 a young Mod called Jimmy Cooper embarked on a booze and drug filled emotional journey as he rode to Brighton for the weekend to fight a Mods cultural enemy, Rockers. Adapted from the rock opera by rock legends The Who, Quadrophenia quickly became a cult classic and is still regarded as one of the great British films of our time. ‘Quadrophenia Alley’ in Brighton has become a pilgrimage site for modern day Mods and film fans. Now, Brighton-based director Devlin Crow wants to shoot a spin off to the classic film and has launched a kickstarter to get the ball rolling.
The film will be called Being, The Argus reports, and will be about a young carer who escapes his everyday life. The boy, Buddy, and his mother, who has multiple sclerosis, share a love of sixties Mod bands such as The Who and The Kinks. Crow has said that the film will have “strong cultural references” to Quadrophenia. He said “I have always had an affinity with Quadrophenia due to growing up in Brighton and I remember the Mod gathering and scooters. My youth and view of Brighton is fused with the film and the Mod scene.”. Mark Wingett, who played Dave in Quadrophenia, will play an out-of-work actor who is befriended by Buddy.
