This May, Lighthouse has curated the ‘Last Dance: Re-Imagined Futures’ series at their central Brighton hub. Lighthouse is “the interdisciplinary organisation for the contemporary digital culture that connects new and evolving developments in art, film, technology and society” right in the heart of Brighton. ‘Last Dance…’ offers a programme of free talks, workshops, and events exploring the future of culture and the ideology surrounding ritual and culture all throughout the month of May.
Tomorrow (26th May) local next-gen radio station, Platform B, will take over for the penultimate event of the programme. Platform B will be broadcasting live in the pop-up location bringing a line-up of talented and fierce femme DJ’s. From midday onwards, head to Lighthouse for:
12-1pm: SpinSuga – a network promoting female DJ’s and producers – Bklava and Henna Malik will be playing Garage, Hip-Hop, House, and R&B.
1-2pm: The 3 Wise Gals – Daisha, Romana, and Dolly will be playing some killer music and spoken word.
2-3pm: Stop Calling Me a Female MC! – Boudicca P will have special guest Bobbie Johnson on to chat all things DJ and play some bangin’ songs.
3-4pm: Saygal Yusuf and Sophia Messinezi – The pair will be discussing Intersectional Feminism and playing a mix of their favourite artists.
4-5pm: Girls to the Front – Georgia Kolakowski and Toni Coe will be playing the best in femme-led punk, hardcore, and emo music whilst discussing what it means to be female and a punk.
Platform B has been running for a couple of years and through their work, they have ignited a wave of young people getting involved in radio in Brighton. Covering pretty much every genre possible on their airwaves, there is a show for everyone to lock in to. They run as a not-for-profit next generation broadcaster, with all shows programmed and directed by Brighton’s new wave of DJ’s, producers, and presenters. If you’ve been in Green Door in the last year or so, you may have seen the sign and the literal platform it is run from. Come down to Lighthouse to support the next-gen radio stars and to hear lots of discussion on what it means to be female within the music industry. If you can’t make it to the venue make sure to lock in to www.platformb.org.uk
