A radio announcer in her forties revisiting her life situation, a story about a doppelganger solving the problems of a fed up Mr Saturday Night-guy, a couple’s perfectly planned journey to the altar… Six exciting new plays will take centre stage at this year’s Short Play Festival at Brighton’s New Venture Theatre from Friday on.
Michelle Donkin, Sarah Charsley, Amy Onyett, Charly Sommers, Sam Chittenden and Nick Richards are six up-and-coming writers from the Brighton-area. They all have handed in their scripts for exciting new short plays to be showcased at the festival.
Two experienced writers have mentored them throughout the writing process to make sure the plays meet the required standards before they were handed over to the same number of new directors.
For Erica Fletcher, Sabrina Giles, James Macauley, Jeremy Crow, Emmie Spencer and Tom Slater-Hyndman, it will be the first time ever to actually direct a play. On their exciting mission to put the plays on stage, they will be supported by several experienced staff members from the New Venture.
Each play being between 15 and 20 minutes long, spectators will get the chance to see all of them when going to one of the performances which will run from Friday all the way through to next Saturday with a break on Monday. The plays will be presented in the venue’s Theatre Upstairs to a small audience of 75 people.
Doors open every night at 7 pm. The show starts at 7.45 pm, except Sunday when there will be a matinee performance at 2.30 pm.
