The disappointing news came in February, saying that the beloved Kemp Town Carnival was canceled for this year. However, fans and participants won’t have to miss out completely on the colourful event as there will be an alternative celebratory parade along Brighton’s seafront taking place this Sunday. Also, organisers have now announced that the carnival will definitely be back bigger and better in 2018.

Although smaller than usual, this year’s event will feature the usual samba bands and processional troupes who will bring the carnival spirit back to Brighton with a colourful samba parade along the seafront. Kicking off at the Fortune of War at 11 am, they will dance their way to Brighton Palace Pier which will play host to a special carnival day with live music, performances and Caribbean cocktails in the Horatio’s Bar.

At the same time, Patterns will be hosting a carnival Sunday social with dance taster sessions, DJ’s and different workshops. Starting at 12 pm, the activities are meant to help raise funds for next year’s proper Kemp Town Carnival event.

Ever since the cancellation came in February due to financial issues, organisers of the annual event have been busy raising funds to be able to put up a bigger than ever carnival in 2018. Thanks to a number of fundraising events and new partnerships with Brighton Palace Pier and Brighton College, they have now confirmed that the Kemp Town Carnival will be back in all its glory on the 2nd of June next year.

The announcement comes as a relief to many fans and regular participants of the event which has turned into the Brighton version of the Notting Hill Carnival ever since its creation in the mid-90s.
