With Spring here at long last, the warm weather and brighter days provides an excellent excuse to get your children outdoors and make some long-lasting memories. It’s all too easy to relax indoors, especially with the with the attention-wicking influence of video games and TikTok – but with some good old-fashioned group activities, you can help your children discover the joys of the spring season.
Garden Camp-Out
With the weather becoming much more reasonable, the potential for outdoor play expands significantly – to the point where you could comfortably spend a night in the garden. Caping out in the back garden is endless fun for youngsters, being a break from the norm in the form of a low-stakes adventure. You could cook s’mores on an open fire, trade scary stories into the dark and stargaze before getting cosy in a tent together. And if things get a little too cold, the warmth of your home is there to retreat to.
Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt
It wouldn’t quite be the Easter holidays without the chocolate-guzzling indulgence of the Easter weekend. There is much you can do to celebrate Easter with your family through the holidays, but perhaps the most fun you can have with your children is the Easter egg scavenger hunt. Get some chocolate easter eggs delivered to your door, and sneak them out into a number of hiding places in your garden. Let you children run riot trying to find them all, and maybe even have a prize in place for the child that finds the most!
Planting Flowers
Unless you are green-fingered through and through, gardening might not sound like much fun – but it can be a fantastic learning experience for your little ones, not to mention a brilliant excuse to get a little messy. You could prepare a small patch of flowerbed, and allow your children to pick out their favourite summer flowers to plant. They then get to observe the fruits of their labour as the season progresses!
Chalk Art
Another harmless way to encourage your children outdoors is with a box of chalk crayons. If you have a driveway, you can let your children express themselves artistically with the chalk, safe in the knowledge that spring showers will clean up on your behalf. The only limit is their imagination; they could even draw out playground games like hopscotch.
Flying a Kite
Spring is a season of transition. Even as the temperature begins to hot up a little, the weather can remain a little temperamental – making it the perfect season for kite-flying. Taking your children out to the local park with a kite or two and spending the afternoon riding the wind can be an incredibly blissful way to spend a day, and a great form of bonding as you teach them the unique skill of kite-handling.
