Tomberlin @ The Hope and Ruin, Monday 20th May

Sarah Beth Tomberlin’s deeply moving debut album ‘At Weddings’ which she wrote during her late teens has been a huge success. The album represents the relief she found in songwriting and questions ‘faith, identity, and her place in the world’.

“Las manos de mi madre” @ The Warren, 21st May

“Las Manos de mi Madre” is an evening of music that explores different country traditions, with influences ranging from Cuba, Argentina, Morocco, Senegal, Spain, Brazil and Portugal, the performer, Babel Ruiz, fuses world music with her own jazz touch “a passionate and moving exploration of world music and its heritage”. This is the first time it will be performed in England.

GAIKA @ The Green Door Store, Wednesday 22nd of May

GAIKA is a rapper that uses synth pads and sample packed beats as a unique backdrop for his fusion of pop, R&B and British rap. His sound has been described as ‘ethereal’ and he is gaining an increasing fan base.

Benjamin Zephaniah + The Revolutionary Minds @ Concorde 2, Thursday 23rd May

Benjamin Zephaniah has been widely celebrated as one of the greatest poets of his generation who is strongly influenced by the music and poetry of Jamaica. Zephania and a full live band ‘The Revolutionary Minds’ are staging shows at a range of venues around the country. “Revolutionary Minds is a chance to experience Zephaniah’s innovative talent in full force; a triumphant creation of emotional songs that highlight the poignant global issues faced by society today.”

Foreign Beggars @ Patterns, Friday 24th May

UK rap pioneers Foreign Beggars are coming to Brighton with a brand new live band this Friday. They will be playing unreleased music, as well as songs from their latest album 2 2 Karma, their first Album Asylum Speakers, and everything else in between.

Neneh Cherry @ Brighton Dome, Saturday 25th May

Iconic Swedish singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry is performing her new album ‘Broken Politics‘. Her energy and sound has been very well described, and has been described by The Guardian as ‘simultaneously beautiful and abrasive, cheerful and deeply sad, much like its maker’.

Peter Perrett @ Concorde 2, Sunday 26th May

Peter Perrett, who is best known as the front-man of rock-band The Only Ones is coming to Brighton. Head down to Concorde to see talented singing, songwriting and rhythm guitar.
