It’s Monday and of course that means, we’re back with our top picks of which gigs are worth your time this week! Just because the weekend is over doesn’t mean your opportunities to go out and have fun are too. So if you want to see the highlights of what’s on with music in our city this week, read on.
Monday – Ryley Walker @ Komedia
Taking over Komedia this Monday is American singer-songwriter and guitarist, Ryley Walker. Walker’s sound can be described as a combination of indie, folk, blue and rock. With four albums under his belt, Walker is back with his UK tour, offering up “fingerstyle ballads, psychedelic waltzes and raga-inspired blues”.

Tuesday – Declan McKenna @ Concorde 2
Best known for winning Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition in 2015, Declan McKenna is an English singer, songwriter and musician. At just 18 years old, McKenna has already become a popular choice amongst the festival circuit for this coming Summer, set to play at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds. So to have such a young talent right on our doorstop seems like an unmissable opportunity!

Wednesday – Elephant Stone @ The Hope & Ruin
One not to be missed, Canadian band Elephant Stone will be taking over The Hope & Ruin this Wednesday night! Frontman Rishi Dhir leads the band with a style that incorporates aspects of traditional Indian music including the sitar, tabla and dilruba as well as Western psychedelic rock – what a combination! Dhir cites his influences as 60s icons The Kinks and The Beatles.

Thursday – Melt-Banana @ Patterns
If you’re looking for something a bit different this week, then this is definitely for you. Showcasing their music in Patterns this week is Japanese noise rock band, Melt-Banana. They’re known for playing “extremely fast grindcore and noise music mixed with experimental, electronica and pop-based song structures.” Impressively, since their formation in 1992, the band has created ten albums together and toured worldwide numerous times.

Friday – Molly Burch @ The Joker
The Joker will be welcoming US singer-songwriter, Molly Burch this Friday. The singer’s official site cites her early influences as Patsy Cline, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, all of whom attributed to her old Hollywood singing style. Expect wistful love songs and elegant jazz.
