Children across the city of Brighton & Hove can rejoice! Contractors employed by Brighton & Hove City Council will be renovating and replacing five city playgrounds. The works will be completed by the start of the school holidays so kids will get the chance to play all through the summer.
A new ‘sway alley bridge’ will be installed at Queens Park as well as brand-new play area featuring a slide, mini climbing fame, small ‘fireman’s pole’ and plenty of places to climb and explore. They will replace the existing train engine play area with a new one as well as removing it’s trailer to be replaced with the aforementioned ‘sway alley bridge’.
Councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the environment committee, said “I’m really pleased that we have been able to identify funding to improve these popular playgrounds and provide plenty of fun for children across the city all summer long.”
Hangleton Park will be getting a new climbing frame and slide. Meanwhile in a separate project Mile Oak playground will be receiving new cradle swings, monkey bars and drums with work due to start next week.
Improvements made in Preston Park and Queens Park will be funded by section 106 contributions from local developers. The work at Farm Green, Hangleton Park, Victoria Recreation Ground and further work in Queens Park will be covered by additional funding allocated in the budget last year.
Developers Foster Landscapes and Cosmo Construction will be carrying out the work with information signs detailing the improvements being placed in parks over the next few weeks, detailing the work they will be doing.
