We are back with another edition of Humans of Brighton, the feature that focuses purely on individuals, community and the very best of people in our city.

Last week, Brighton Journal spoke to Lol about her views on Brighton, and how she feels her wellbeing has improved since becoming part of the City’s community. This week, we caught up with professional beard grooming expert, Marcus Hazelwood, who shared similar views.

What brings you to Brighton?

I live here, I’ve been here for 30 years! I currently work here for my good friend Neil, he is the owner of Mr. Masey’s Emporium of Beards.

Could you tell me more about what Mr. Masey does?

He makes all these products from entirely natural ingredients, vegan friendly, and they’re all for looking after your beard. Also, they all contain vitamin E, which is perfect for nourishing the hair and keeping facial hair in fantastic order. Plus it’s kind for the environment too!

How long has the stall been in the North Laine?

We’ve been on this site here for just over 3 years now.

Do you feel like it is good for your business to be in the heart of Brighton’s Lanes?

It is a fantastic site, the footfall down here is brilliant. Also the sense of camaraderie and community in this street is incomparable. There is a wonderful sense of support, it’s like family down here.

What is your absolute favourite thing about Brighton?

My favourite thing about Brighton… Crikey! We live in this wonderful bubble don’t we? We are surrounded by wonderfully creative, artistic people, all life is here. There is very little judgement and you can live your life pretty much any way you want to, as long as you don’t seek to harm anybody. Everyone tends to get along rather well in Brighton, I feel like we’re so spoilt here!

If I must ask, do you have a least favourite aspect of the city?

I’d like it if the streets were a bit cleaner sometimes… It makes me so sad, especially if you go down to the seafront and you see rubbish all over the beach-

Yes, I was discussing earlier how I think it has got worse…

You’re right, it has got worse. There is a little but of disrespect sometimes I think, we have such a lovely environment, and we live in such a beautiful area. People should really try to keep it that way.
