For this week’s instalment of Humans of Brighton we had the pleasure of talking to the lovely Marta, who moved to Brighton from Portugal and currently works in the North Laines at Marrakech House.

Hi Marta! Tell us about yourself – where are you from and what do you do?

I am from Portugal originally. I’ve lived in Brighton for a year and I absolutely love it. I’m currently working here at Marrakech House.

What’s your favourite thing about Brighton?

My favourite thing is that everybody is free here, and everyone is so individual and unique here. I also really like that there is art everywhere. I feel really comfortable here.

How do you think that compares to Portugal?

For me persoanlly, Portugal was a great place to grow up, because it’s a small country and it was nice to grow up around the same people, but it could be very closed minded, but I think Brighton is the opposite of that. They both have pros and cons!

What do you like to do in Brighton? How do you spend your time?

I love the seaside… but I love exploring the Laines. Sometimes me and my best friend will just explore the Laines, seeing all the sights all over again and just chill. I love doing that.

And your least favourite thing about Brighton?

Well it’s not Brighton’s fault but the weather! I’d change that if I could, definitely.

Do you plan on staying in Brighton, or would you move away?

I can’t say forever because I don’t like to make plans that far, but for now, I’m definitely staying.
