We met Svenni on our way from Queens Park on this beautiful sunny Sunday morning. He was the only person walking down the street and greeted us cheerfully, when we stopped him for a short chat, even though he does look serious in the picture.

Hey where are you from? I’m from Iceland, from a small town just outside of Reykjavík.

How would you describe yourself? A very simple guy, sometimes a bit slow but that’s OK, good things take time.

How long have you lived in Brighton? Only a very short time but I plan to spend the summer here.

What do you do for a living? I’m a part-time musician and a part-time Anthropologist. So basically I play my guitar, sing and look at people.

What other interests do you have? Music and anthropology take up most of my time but I am a bit of a sci-fi and fantasy nerd, Star Trek, Doctor Who and the like.

What else have you done to keep yourself busy whilst you’ve been here? I have been studying the city, tasting its coffee and beer and getting a feel for the culture. So far I like what I see, feel and taste.

Where about in Brighton do you live and what’s it like? I live in Freshfield Road in Kemp Town, which is very nice, a quiet place but a short distance from the life and excitement of the downtown area.

How does Brighton compare to the other places you’ve lived? I like the size of it, its not too big and not too small, its just right. It has the diversity of a big city but the feel of a small town.

What’s the best thing about Brighton? All the different people I see on the streets with interesting styles, haircuts and tattoos going about their lives. It seems that there is a lot of things going on here, a lot of festivals and culture and the people are nice.

What’s the one thing in Brighton you would recommend for everyone to do? Find a nice cafe in the North Lanes and watch all the different characters pass by on the street. They all seem so interesting. By the end of the day you will have the material for a novel, a study or a song.
