Komedia launches new club night and features an all-female comedian line-up to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025

Brighton’s home of live entertainment, Komedia, is hosting the first ever edition of Let’s Go Girls this Saturday 8 March to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Spearheaded by Venues Coordinator Misti Heslop, whose birthday falls on International Women’s Day, Let’s Go Girls is an inclusive club night for all genders to (re)live their girl pop fantasy. As to why she decided to put on this event, Misti said: “To celebrate all of the truly amazing women in our lives and beyond feels so empowering. I wanted to bring back our youth with this club night and choose what will be played. Even though I love a bit of heavy music, I am always up for a good boogie to some pop bangers!”

From 80s Disco Divas to 90s Rave Queens, noughties Pop Princesses to 2010s Club Babes, audiences can expect to hear Chappell Roan, Britney Spears, Lily Allen, Paramore, Dolly Parton, P!nk, the Spice Girls, Kim Wilde, and of course Shania Twain, whose 1997 megahit “Man! I feel like a woman!” was the inspiration behind the club night’s name.

Let’s Go Girls is also a fundraiser for the Survivors Network, with donation boxes at the online checkout as well as in the venue on the day. “Survivors Network are a brilliant feminist organisation based in Brighton, who support the survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Sussex,” Misti explains. “I chose to support them as part of this club night, because I know personally how vital the work they are doing is and the impact it has on their service users.”

Before Let’s Go Girls opens its doors, Komedia will be hosting an International Women’s Day edition of their weekly hit Komedia Comedy Club with an all-female line up on both Friday 7 & Saturday 8 March, featuring Nicola Mantalios (MC), Eleanor Tiernan, Celya AB, and Helen Bauer.

Just last year, comedy website Chortle published an article in which Komedia was ranked best for featuring more female comedians at Komedia Comedy Club than any other major comedy club in the country (at a ratio of 60:40). This piece of research was conducted after comedian Lucy Beaumont called out a number of clubs for presenting all-male comedy line-ups.

Brighton is home to many funny women, such as Zoe Lyons, Jen Brister, Suzi Ruffell, Maisie Adams, Isobel Rogers, Laura Lexx, and newly minted Komedia New Comedy Award 2025 winner Sydney May. Komedia aims to provide diverse bills across all comedy shows – from Komedia Comedy Club to new talent showcase Comic Boom and queer & alternative comedy club Down The Hatch as well as Funny Women – and takes an intersectional approach to line-ups.

Hal Branson, from leading comedy production company Little Wander, who programmes Komedia Comedy Club alongside Komedia, said: ‘Little Wander is pleased that this important conversation is happening – while acknowledging that it’s disappointing and frustrating that it needs to. […] There is still plenty to do, and we will strive for continued improvement across all of our line-ups”.

Past and upcoming Female Comedians who have performed at Komedia Comedy Club include Nina Conti, Jen Brister, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Rachel Fairburn, Shazia Mirza, Zoe Lyons, Kate Barron, Maisie Adam, Olga Koch, Rosie Jones, Laura Lexx, Sara Barron, Sally-Anne Hayward, Jo Neary, Sikisa, Amy Gledhill, Thanyia Moore and many, many others.
