They popped up all over Brighton and Hove in autumn last year and didn’t fail to quickly make it into the hearts of residents and visitors alike. The 44 giant and colourful dog sculptures were part of the Snowdogs by the Sea art trail brought into being by The Martlets Hospice. After last year’s big success, the hospice has now announced there will be a similar trail in 2018.
Last year’s statues were inspired by the famous dog character of the animated short film “The Snowman and the Snowdog” but organisers are keeping quiet about what shape the giant sculptures will take next autumn. They have only revealed they are working in partnership with art event company Wild in Art.
The prospect of a new Snowdog-like art trail coming to the city is expected to raise excitement among old and young as a survey commissioned by the Martlet’s Hospice has proven a very high popularity for the snowdogs which attracted more than 350,000 visitors over three months. Everyone who got questioned in the survey answered they really enjoyed the trail.
The final auction they went into after the end of the trail managed to raise £300,000 for the hospice, not to mention the estimated £10 million impact on the local economy.
