Back To Basics is one of Europe’s longest running club nights, now 33 years old and still going strong!
Throughout the 1990s Back To Basics was one of the hottest tickets in the clubbing calendar, causing roadblocks weekly in Leeds city centre. Over the subsequent decades it grew out of the city where it was born to branch out as far and wide as Australia and the USA, holding club residencies across the clubbing universe from Home London to Space Ibiza. Back To Basics nurtured the talent of Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada, giving those international acts some of their first gigs as unknown
artists in the UK. Basics was also responsible for bringing international talent into the UK for the first time including Danny Tenaglia, Josh Wink and Frankie Knuckles.
The iconic club brand was founded and is still led by the infamous DJ, promoter, artist and musician Dave Beer. Dave has DJed to thousands of people all over the world, from Berlin Love Parade to Glastonbury, Creamfields, Ministry Of sound and Pacha Ibiza. Now Dave visits Brighton to perform alongside some the south’s finest DJs, associated with Irvine Welsh’s Jack Said What brand, at Waterbear on Saturday 13th April, 11pm-4am.
Joining Dave is Jon Carter, who has just released his acclaimed new album on Jack Said What, ‘Medication Time’. Also taking to the decks will be Jack Said What mainstay Steve Mac, whose ‘Bless This Acid House’ album is remixed by Bushwacka, ITHURTZ, Jonny Aux, Black Octopus, Jon Carter, Serge Santiago, Redraft Memories & Chip-E, Une, Horatio, ASOY, Sound Klash and Transparent Sound. Local hero Zoe Vice will also be playing, as will Jack Said What co-founder Carl Loben.
The pre-party for the 13th April event is at Block on St James Street, Brighton from 7.30pm onwards, with JSW artist DJ Luca LeBleu and more.
The ‘Bless This Acid House’ remix album is forthcoming on Jack Said What.
