Last Tuesday a raging fire broke out in Eastbourne in East Sussex. It took the lives of two and saw a man hospitalised, and now in an induced coma.

Sussex Police have made a significant stride in their investigations. They have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of 2 counts of murder and 1 of manslaughter. He was arrested on Sunday at 10:40am and he currently remains in custody.

Police also believe that they have established the identities of the victims. While no formal identification has yet been made, they believe them to be 34-year-old Gina Ingles, and her son, who was tragically just 4. The man now hospitalised is believed to be Ingles’ partner, 26-year-old Toby Jarrett.

Ingles’ family gave a touching tribute to Gina and Milo, describing them as “our shining lights that brought love to us all”.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Ashcroft gave his regards to those impacted: “Our thoughts continue to be with the victims’ family and friends. I am aware that this horrific incident continues to have a huge impact on the community.”

He also, despite the progress made, appealed for any further information which could help uncover the events: “I am appealing to anyone who has even the smallest piece of information which they think might help us to find out who is responsible for committing this terrible crime to get in touch with us.”

They request that “anyone with any information to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Druffield.”
