After eighteen months of waiting, naked cycling enthusiasts will return to the streets of Brighton on August 15th as the event returns.

Total participation numbers, believed to be in their hundreds, will get on their bikes in order to take place in the official Brighton Naked Bike Ride.

The 15-year tradition was cancelled last year due to the Coronavirus outbreak, marking the first time it had not occurred since its inception back in 2006.

The event, runs every June and spans the globe with cities all hosting events aimed at celebrating body confidence, cycling, and providing a platform to promote important causes.

Organisers of the event highlight the ‘heady mix of fearless frivolity, freedom of expression and eco-politics’ that will be brought to the streets of Brighton, with the ride demonstrating the power and confidence people experience when people overcome personal fears to feel safe and strong together.

They added that ‘ our nudity symbolises our vulnerability as fellow creatures of this earth’.

This year’s event will serve as a vehicle to highlight the safety issues faced by cyclists on the road, with also attempting to gain greater awareness to the need for environmental, social and health changes in the city to combat oil and car dependency.

The reduction of such methods is also intended to allow an increased demand for space and facilities for cycling as a form of low-impact cycling.

Kicking off at Preston Park, the ride will lead participants all over the city, and all interested are welcomed to take part.

This year’s 2021 ride will kick off on Sunday 15th August at 12pm, all gathering at the Level where provisions will be provided to allow for body painting, bike decorating and other informative stalls to support the participating cyclists.
