Officer Makes Seven Burglary Arrests in Under 24 Hours

Eastbourne police recently made seven arrests in less than 24 hours, in connection to recent burglaries in the area. The suspects were all detained between Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th March.

33-year-old Laura-Jane Salek, and 41-year-old Allan Kevin Beaton, both unemployed and of Jevington Gardens, Eastbourne, have since been charged with burgling the Peak Medical Practice in Broadwater Way, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, on Friday 2nd March. Salek received a further charge of possessing Class C drugs. He was found to possess a quantity of Clonazepam and Lorazepam.

Both suspects admitted to their offences when they appeared before Brighton magistrates, and were remanded in custody to await sentencing at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, 5th April.

Matthew Daniel Clarke, 33, unemployed and of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with burglary at Treasure Island, Royal Parade, Eastbourne, on Thursday 8th February. In addition he was charged with burglary with intent at the Leo Leisure bingo hall, Pevensey Road, Eastbourne, on Tuesday, 6th March.

Also charged for the burglary at Leo Leisure was Robert Graham Lowe, 40, unemployed, of South Cliff, Eastbourne. Both suspects appeared before Brighton magistrates on Thursday 8th March and both pleaded not guilty. They have both been remanded in custody for a pre-trial preparation hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, 5th April.

A 24-year-old unemployed man living in Eastbourne has also been arrested on suspicion of burgling a kebab shop in Pembury Road, Eastbourne, as well as a veterinary practice in the same road on Wednesday, 7th March. He has been released under investigation. He is also being investigated for a burglary at Easy Cash in Seaside Road, Eastbourne, on 11th November 2017.

A further 24-year-old local man was also arrested on Wednesday, 7th March and released under investigation concerning the Pembury Road burglaries.

Scott Leary, 33, unemployed, of St Aubyn’s Road, Eastbourne, was arrested on Tuesday 6th March, on suspicion of burgling the Day Lewis Pharmacy, Furness Road, Eastbourne, earlier the same day. He was also arrested on suspicion of breaking into Kamsons Pharmacy on Meads Street, Eastbourne, on Sunday, 4th March. He was charged with the offences and remanded in custody pending further proceedings after appearing before Brighton magistrates on Friday, 9th March.

Sergeant Julian Williams, of the Eastbourne prevention team, said: “With the assistance of information received, these prompt arrests are an excellent example of the police and public working together to combat burglaries.”
