Who cares about rain when you are out and about in the water anyway? Although the weather forecast isn’t looking all that great for the weekend, the outlook on what will be happening on Brighton’s waters this weekend will surely brighten your day! Here are some cool water events to check out at this year’s Paddle Round The Pier.
Ready, Steady, Paddle!
As part of this year’s celebration of everything related to water sports and beachside fun, the festival will feature three kayak races on Saturday where men, women and young paddle fans can compete against each other over a 200m triangular course. There are heaps of sit-on-top kayaks waiting for you to jump in and go crazy with the paddle.
Races start at 2 pm (men), 3 pm (women) and 4 pm (youth). You can either register in advance or on the day.
Normal is boring, unusual is fun!
Beer barrels, an inflatable swimming castle, a car…whatever you choose as your vessel, make sure it is unusual! Paddle Something Unusual is your chance to get creative and enjoy paddle fun at the same time. As long as you paddle it manually, anything goes. If you aren’t keen on getting into the water yourself, you can still have a great time watching the vessels launch into the sea while their creators try their best to make it to the finish!
Start is at 12 pm on Sunday. Registration should be dealt with in advance.
This is where it goes down!
There are definitely a lot of great races and activities to look forward to throughout the two days, but there wouldn’t be a Paddle Round The Pier without the actual main event, the famous Paddle itself. That’s the moment for you to grab whatever floatable object is around you and join the masses heading into the water. Expect it to get really crowded in the waters as nobody wants to miss out on this one!
Be there when masses of people on surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks,… head out into the water at 2 pm on Sunday.
Who will be the next paddle pool champion?
While most water related activities and races take place at the open sea, the next SUP champion will be crowned on land. If you fancy having a go at polo or jousting while floating through the demo pool on a stand-up paddleboard, then the SUP Games are for you. But be warned, it is likely you will fall into the water!
The demo pool is situated in the middle of the Paddle Village. The Games run on both days.
Whether you intend to paddle yourself or just after watching others falling into the water and trying their best to get their extraordinary vessels over the finish line, you will be catered for this weekend! Remember that Paddle Round The Pier is a charity festival raising funds for The Wave Project, the RNLI and the BSLSC.
