Registration for the Brighton Fringe Festival opens today, and they are kicking off the event by putting on shows outside Brighton Station, from free love advice to samba dancers. What a way to kick of your commute. Brighton Fringe Festival is the largest open-access, multi-art form festival in England. Taking place from 6 May – 5 June, the Brighton Fringe Festival was originally an extension of the Brighton Festival in 1967 and grew larger and larger until it became a Festival in her own right in 2006.
It is a completely open access festival which means there is no selection criteria and anyone can take part. This means that newer acts get a great opportunity to showcase their work to thousands of people. There are twelve main event categories and feature every sort of show possible, from circus and cabaret acts to dance and comedy acts. Previous acts have included Colin Hoult, star of ‘Derek’ and ‘Being Human’, Tom Deacon, and performances from the BRIT School so there is no excuse to put your act forward. Registration is open until January, however, there is early bird discount if you book your venue and your show as early as possible.
There is a lot to consider when booking your Fringe show such as choosing the right location, how long you will want to perform for, from one night to the full run of the festival, and budgeting your act for the entirety of the fringe performance. The Brighton Fringe Festival plays host to some big names but also to many smaller names, and you won’t get a more eclectic and unique audience as you would in Brighton, the Brighton Fringe Festival is the best place to perform.
