Brighton & Hove City Council is asking residents who have any specialist rehabilitation equipment considered to be part of the ‘six key items’ to return it to the NHS as soon as they can to help out during the COVID-19 crisis.
The six key items needed by the NHS are listed below:
- Specialist hospital-style beds
- Electric reclining chairs
- Hoists
- Commodes
- Perching stools
- Mattresses
Councillor Clare Moonan, chair of the city’s health and wellbeing board, said:
“We need the public to support us by returning these vital pieces of equipment if they are no longer using them.
“We desperately need these items for people coming out of hospital.”
Don’t worry, giving this equipment away doesn’t mean you have to break any social distancing rules. All of the drivers collecting items will be following strict social distancing measures and are equipped with appropriate PPE.
As an example of how this will take place, certain pieces of equipment can be left outside on your property on the allocated collection day.

If you are unfamiliar with NRS, they run the specialist rehab equipment service for the city on behalf of the local NHS and the council.
