Two weeks ago, Brighton Pride announced that legendary electronic pop duo Pet Shop Boys would be headlining this year’s Summer Of Love Festival.
This morning, Years and Years have been unveiled as the second headliner for the UK’s biggest LGBT pride festival. The indie-pop trio will perform at the celebration on 5 August in Preston Park.
Frontman Olly Alexander is famed for his openness concerning his sexuality, and has thrown his support behind anti-LGBT bullying initiatives as well as campaigns promoting safe sex and HIV awareness. He said: “I want to make videos and songs and art that celebrate all different kinds of sexuality and queer identities.”
The five-time Brit nominees have been dubbed “the most important pop band of our time” by NME and bagged numerous awards including the BPI Critics Choice Award, BBC’s Sound of 2015, and MTV Best UK and Ireland Act. Their album ‘Communion’ shot to number one in the UK album chart when it was released in 2015, becoming the fastest-selling debut album of the year from a UK signed band.
