With this year being a whole decade since their initiation, the Push for Prems sponsored walk is back in Brighton on Sunday 23rd June in aid of the Early Birth Association.
The Early Birth Association is a registered charity that works with the Trevor Mann Baby Unit and PRH Special Care Baby Unit. They aim to support premature and poorly babies, providing a variety of help for babies and parents. This ranges from making their hospital stay more homely and comfortable, to funding vital life saving equipment and research.
This year, the walk will also be supporting Ronald McDonald House – a home from home that is there for parents who are not local to Brighton. The charity provides free accommodation for parents whose little ones are in hospital.
Over the past 9 years, this wonderful event has raised over £90,000 for the Early Birth Association, Ronald McDonald House, SERV Sussex (a dedicated team that supply urgent blood and donor milk to hospitals throughout the night) and the Neonatal Ambulance Service.
From the walk in the sweltering heat on summer 2013, to the big end-of-walk balloon release in 2017, supporters are coming back for a day of solidarity and strength. Participants will meet outside the Royal Sussex County Hospital and walk to Hove Lagoon, where there will be a picnic. This year, post walk, there will be something slightly different: a bubble release in memory of those very precious little ones that sadly didn’t make it home.
Absolutely anyone is welcome, and to add some cheer to the walk, participants are encouraged to dress appropriately… So get your wigs, tutus and wacky nurses and doctors outfits out and be a part of making the day as fun and vibrant as possible (the only way Brighton folk know how!)
The even is organised by a group of brave parents who hold this charity close to their heart. Alongside raising money, it is also an act of gratitude as thanks to the care provided by these organisations that helped their little ones defy the odds. .
So, why not sign up to this incredible sponsored walk because, well, do we need to give you more of a reason? Enjoy a day of collective silliness, in aid for something so important and life saving.
