Gary and Josh Moore have had a good campaign in the 2024 Flat season in the UK, but the pair from West Sussex will be hoping to end it strongly, with success in some of the biggest races on the autumn calendar.
If the Moore team can win one of the major races in the final month of the season, it could shoot them up the Trainers’ Championship standings.
Trio Entered in Cesarewitch
The Cesarewitch at Newmarket is one of the most lucrative handicap races run in the UK. There is a purse of over £200,000 on offer in the race and the Moores have entered three horses, as they bid to land the top prize.
The bet on horse racing market for the Newmarket contest suggests Mark Of Gold is their best chance of victory. He is 40/1 to prevail. The dual-purpose horse has had three successes on the Flat, and he should not lack the stamina for the 2m2f race.
Peking Opera could be one of the horse racing betting tips for the race, as he is a Listed winner on the Flat. The four-year-old gelding has not featured since running at Lingfield back in May, so he should be fresh for this assignment.
Nachtgeist will be the third horse that the Moores will saddle at Newmarket. He is the son of multiple Group One winner Highland Reel, so he has an excellent pedigree. Like most horses from the West Sussex stable, he has featured on the Flat and over obstacles. The four-year-old will carry one of the lowest weight allocations in the large field contest.
Miller Spirit Wins Unique Derby Double at Epsom
It was an excellent month in September for Miller Spirit, who completed a unique victory for the Moore team, with triumphs in the Jump Jockeys Derby and Apprentice Derby at the British Classic course.
In the first leg of that double, Miller Spirit was ridden to success by Jump jockey David Noonan. He came home powerfully to score by just under a length on the Downs at Epsom. Then just over two weeks later, he won the apprentice race emphatically by four lengths.
Miller Spirit is likely to remain in training during the autumn and winter months, as he has featured on the all-weather before. Kempton and Lingfield are courses he may be entered at before the year is out.
Too Soon Has Emerged to Be Excited With
The Moore duo also celebrated success on the final fixture of the season at Epsom with their two-year-old colt Too Soon. The son of Too Darn Hot broke his maiden in a conditions race over 1m½f. He looked very smart, beating a horse from Ralph Beckett’s yard, which had a big reputation.
Too Soon’s victory at Epsom means the Moores can look forward to next season with their colt. He is likely to feature in some of the leading three-year-old contests, including the Derby, a race he has earned automatic qualification into. He will be bidding to replicate what City Of Troy achieved in the race earlier this year.
With Flat racing and National Hunt racing taking place over the next few months, it is set to be a busy end to 2024 for everybody at Cisswood Stables.
