Sussex Police have formally identified the three women found dead in the sea near Brighton beach on the morning of Wednesday 13 May 2026.

The women are Jane Adetoro, aged 36, Christina Walters, aged 32, and Rebecca Walters, aged 31. All three were from the Uxbridge area of London. Their bodies were discovered near Black Rock beach off Madeira Drive in the early hours after emergency services responded to concerns about a person in the water.

Their father Joseph has paid tribute to his daughters in a statement released through police.

“Today, with a heart full of sorrow and love, I pay tribute to my beloved daughters — Jane, Christina, and Becky — whose lives ended so tragically far too soon,” he said. “Though you are no longer here beside us, you will remain our joy and strength.”

Sussex Police Superintendent Haes said the investigation is continuing. “I know this incident has had a profound impact on the local community in Brighton, and across the country, and I’d like to reassure the public we will leave no stone unturned in our investigation to understand exactly what led to the tragic events of that Wednesday morning.”

Police have confirmed there is currently no indication of third-party involvement or criminal activity. Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage and conduct interviews. The matter will be referred to the coroner.

The Superintendent asked that the family’s privacy be respected. “This investigation will continue in earnest, with Jane, Christina and Rebecca’s family at its centre. I would ask that they are given the privacy to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.”

The discovery has shocked both the Brighton community and communities across London. A Sussex Police spokesperson said the force’s thoughts remain with the Walters family.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Sussex Police.
