The Brighton Book Festival team is delighted to announce that tickets for the festival’s third year are now on sale.The five-day book festival runs from 18 to 23 June and will be held at Brighton University for the second year running.
In line with its mission to ‘make the marginalised mainstream’, the festival reaches a younger and more diverse audience than other book festivals. More than 50% of those attending in previous years said they had never been to a book festival before.
Confirmed guests include bestselling novelist Dorothy Koomson, Guardian columnist and author Nels Abbey and poets Roy McFarlane and AFLO. the poet.
The programme of 20 fantastic events includes an evening of comedy and natural wine tasting with Absolutely Fabulous actor Helen Lederer; a day of family fun, crafting and storytelling for all ages with children’s laureate Joseph Coelho; and a night of poetry, spoken word and music.
There will be thought-provoking discussions on the relationship between activism and literature; moving beyond European standards of beauty; writing outside your own culture; and whether it’s time to take comedy writing seriously.
Aspiring authors will have the chance to hone their skills at the Poetry Workshop and the Writers Day, where for just £5 they will be able to meet people in the publishing industry, pitch their work and have the opportunity to win a one-to-one with an industry specialist.
