Unite, the largest UK workers union, has organised an urgent meeting today for the 400 Gatwick based ex-employees hit hard by Thomas Cook’s collapse, many of whom have not yet received their final pay cheque.

On Monday, Thomas Cook employees protested outside the Conservative party conference in Manchester with placards stating “Pay Us Now!”.  Unite are concerned that workers are being treated as “ordinary creditors” and that it is currently unclear when they will be paid or whether they will only receive a percentage of wages owed to them.

When the company ceased trading suddenly on 23 September with a final post on Facebook, 9,000 UK jobs were put at risk and Thomas Cook immediately closed its two branches in Brighton and Hove. The UK government bailed out 150,000 stranded holidaymakers in the largest repatriation since World War II.

With the travel industry playing an important part in Brighton job figures, another travel heavyweight Tui has been linked to Thomas Cook, but was quick in a recent press release to confirm that they would be assisting holidaymakers affected.

Now Tui, who also have two Brighton branches in North Street and London Road, have brought forward their 2020 recruitment drive to offer jobs to ex Thomas Cook employees. With 60 jobs available nationally, Tui management have offered to share a link with any Thomas Cook junior or senior managers working in holiday destinations. You can access this jobs link here.

For anyone affected by the Thomas Cook collapse, the meeting is being held today: Thursday 3rd October at 09.30 am at Arora Hotel, Southgate Ave, Crawley RH10 6LW.
