As always we have hand-picked some of the best events on in Brighton and Hove this weekend. We have decided to add in a bit more this week, including some mindfulness workshops, in case anyone needs to take their mind of Valentines! The three photography exhibitions at the beginning are running at different dates throughout the month, so you’re not tied to the Friday that we’ve put them under.

Trans* Gender: International exhibition @ Dorset Gardens Methodist Church, Friday 15th February
The Clare Project are hosting images from the international exhibition from the Rainbow Cities network. The photo exhibition explores ideas around gender identity, activism, trans lives and community. There are images of people from across the world, with cities providing one photo each to ‘fight trans phobia and celebrate trans lives’.

‘Life Suspended’ @ Brighton Museum, Friday 15th February
Life Suspended is an exhibition displaying contemporary images of Kachin Refugees in Kuala Lumpar, a largely unknown refugee community that has strong links to Brighton’s Museum collections. Photographs are by Ryan Libre.

Pieces of Eight Exhibition @ The Rainbow Hub, Friday 15th February
The Rainbow Hub community center on St James’ Street is hosting an interesting exhibition, including photographs solely of Brighton and Hove residents. Each subject was born in a different decade over the last 90 years, and each image shows an uncompromised potrait of the real people of Brighton.

18-30’s Speed Dating @ The Garden Bar, Friday 15th February
If Valentines Day hasn’t gone so well for you this year, but you are still keen to find the one (or just have some fun), why not get involved in a spot of speed dating. Discovery Day: The Wonderful Women of Stem @ Booth Museum of Natural History, Saturday 16th February
To celebrate the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, the Booth Museum are holding a Discovery Day this Saturday afternoon.
This is a great opportunity to hear the incredible stories of the women scientists who changed the world and get hands-on with activities led by local women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Jack Barry @ Komedia, Saturday 16th February
Jack Barry was appointed by his parents as a couples therapist to save their marriage, a highly awkward job which turned him into a ‘Sex God’. Since this, Barry, a self-proclaimed ‘compulsive over sharer’ has been reading up on love, sex and relationships and has become an acclaimed stand-up. Come and have a laugh at this love themed show, but don’t take your parents!

Replicate Your Clothes Workshop @ Brighton Sewing School, Sunday 17th February
Never lose your best clothes again! Brighton Sewing School is holding a workshop that allows you to make a pattern from a favourite item of your clothing so that you can replicate it many times in different fabrics. This will be an enjoyable, and practical way to spend your afternoon this Sunday.

Beginners Weaving Workshop @ Potters Thumb, Sunday 17th February
This weaving workshop for all ages invites you to use your hands to create something, and improve your mental health in the process. Join “Shiv” at this mindful and creative beginners workshop and learn this traditional craft whilst gaining a better understanding of how fabric is made. Over a two and a half hour session, you will learn how to make a brilliant colourful creation and be as experimental as you like!
