Brighton is preparing for one of the biggest football nights in years as England face Argentina in the World Cup semi-final tonight, Wednesday 15 July. By Nick Staunton
The match kicks off at 8pm UK time, with the winners advancing to Sunday’s final against Spain. England are attempting to reach their first men’s World Cup final since winning the tournament in 1966, while defending champions Argentina are seeking another title under Lionel Messi. The match will be shown live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
For supporters wanting the full crowd atmosphere, Ye Olde King & Queen in Marlborough Place is likely to be one of Brighton’s busiest destinations. The Grade II-listed pub is widely regarded as the city’s leading football venue, with a huge projector screen in its main bar and televisions positioned throughout the building. Fans are advised to arrive early because capacity is expected to fill quickly.
Other sports bars and pubs across central Brighton, West Street, North Laine and the seafront are also expected to screen the match. Supporters should check directly with individual venues before travelling, as many tables may already be reserved and some bars may operate ticketed entry or standing-room-only arrangements.
Despite Brighton’s history of major beach screenings, no council-run outdoor fan zone or officially confirmed public open-air screen could be identified at the time of publication. Supporters should therefore not travel to the beach expecting a large public screening unless a venue or organiser announces one directly.

England reached the semi-final after coming from behind to defeat Norway 2–1 after extra time, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice. Argentina booked their place by beating Switzerland 3–1, also after extra time.
With kick-off at the unusually supporter-friendly time of 8pm, Brighton’s pubs are expected to be packed well before the teams emerge in Atlanta. Anyone planning to watch in the city should arrive early, confirm entry arrangements and allow extra time for busy bars and transport.
