Brighton Science Festival is returning for 2017, and this year young people are being given the opportunity to become Crime Scene Investigators.

Experts from Think Forensic will show participants how real-life crimes are solved, using genuine forensic techniques to gather and examine evidence.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to develop and lift fingerprints, analyse blood splatters, identify and match hair and fibres under a microscope, and analyse shoe prints and tyre tracks.

It’s all part of Brighton Science Festival which runs from 11 – 25 February.

The annual festival, which has been running for the last ten years, is open to all ages but most events are aimed at 12-14 year-olds.

Who Dunnit? Workshop
The workshops take place on the 13th and 14th of February

Highlights include a Minecraft Dinosaur Dig, a visit from Festival of the Spoken Nerd, and a screening of Finding Dory followed by a discussion about the science of the sea.

Festival Director Richard Robinson says: “Brighton Science Festival started ten years ago, because… well, because everyone needs a science festival. It’s the best way to discover where we came from, deal with where we are and debate where we might go in the future.

“The Brighton Science Festival is building its own bridges, between science and the people. We hope to make science so irresistible to young students that the A-level courses are flooded with applicants. Already there is an increased uptake in Sussex. This is good. It means higher standards and better choice for businesses.

“Even for young people who decide to leave school at sixteen there will be an enduring interest in science and respect for scientists and engineers.”

Festival of The Spoken Nerd
Festival of the Spoken Nerd will be appearing at The Old Market as part of Brighton Science Festival on 15 February

Tickets for CSI Whodunnit? are £12.50 each or £40 for a family of four. The two hour sessions take place at Brighton Youth Centre on Edward Street on 13th and 14th February.
