Summer is upon as and it’s making us appreciate the jewel in Brighton’s crown more than ever – the beach. So we’re here to tell you why we love living by the seaside so much and why you should too!

1. The Beach Is Your Garden

Realistically most Brighton residents don’t have the luxury of a sea view flat on the cusp of town and those that do may not even have their own garden! But never fear, in Brighton the beach is your garden. On those Summer days when all you want to do is lie in the sun with a book, the beach is your best friend. Or if relaxing isn’t your cup of tea, why not bring along a ball or another activity to pass the day by? (Tip: Try to venture to the left of the pier towards Kemptown to avoid packed tourist syndrome during the holidays).

2. We Get The Best Fish & Chips In The World…

A seaside staple – good old fish and chips. Is a trip to the seaside really complete without some battered cod (or tofu) and chips? Well the answer is yes if you frequent the beach as often as we do but nevertheless, having the opportunity to get great chips is always a plus.

3. …And The Best Ice Cream!

Much like fish and chips, ice cream always tastes better by the sea. What could be more refreshing on a hot day than a cold Mr Whippy with a flake? Few things, I would argue. With so many great ice cream parlours in Brighton, some of the best stuff can still be found by the shore, and being able to treat yourself to this authentic English seaside experience at the drop of a hat has to be one of the best things about living by the sea.

4. There’s Plenty To Do On The Pier

As we’ve said before, Brighton Palace Pier is full of great activities for local Brightonians and tourists alike. Whether you want to challenge the arcade, go on rides or simply kick back with a jug of pimms – the pier has everything. Plus it’s great for photo opportunities!

5. You Don’t Have To Go Abroad To Feel Like You’re On Holiday

With the beach being your garden and all, it’s not hard to feel like you’re on holiday in Brighton. With the sea on your doorstep, you don’t have to go abroad to have an excuse to get your bikini out. Rent a deckchair, get your suncream out and go for a dip!

6. The Scenery Is Unbeatable

Seaside photography can be some of the best and Brighton is a great place for it. Living in Brighton, if you want to find some picturesque scenery you simply have to stroll down to the beach… Go for a relaxing walk or an invigorating run and take in all the seaside sights have to offer.

7. Money Isn’t Required To Have Fun

Okay if you want the aforementioned fish & chips and ice cream then yes some money is required. However that’s totally optional! You can easily visit the seaside without spending a penny or at least keeping it cheap. If all else fails, bring along a book, ball, kite or bathing suit and let the beach look after you!

8. Family & Friends Are Always Going To Want To Come And Visit You

With so much to do by the beach, living in Brighton means friends and family always wanting to come and visit. You may not like the idea of your family constantly “popping down” but that just means less travelling for you!

9. There Is An Unlimited Supply Of Seaside Tat At Your Fingertips

We’re not quite sure why this is a good thing but the seaside is full of souvenir shops. Maybe you really need access to a cheap bucket and spade? Maybe it is of the utmost importance that you have a Brighton fridge magnet? Maybe you just really fancy a stick of rock? Who knows, but it sure can be fun browsing seaside tat from time to time and reminiscing of childhood holidays to the English seaside…

10. Beer, Beer, Everywhere!

Living in London By Sea also means welcoming stag and hen dos every weekend, but that does have its perks. Due to the sheer numbers of day trippers and weekend breakers, Brighton beachfront is lined with pubs, bars and everything in between. There’s nothing like a refreshing beer or a cocktail while sat out watching the waves hit the shore.
