Shakespeare’s daughter is accused of adultery in this intricate thriller about desire and the secret life of Shakespeare’s daughter, Susannah Hall, who would go on to become the mother of the last descendent of Shakespeare.
Based on a true event in the history of Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon, this highly anticipated and well-received play – ‘The Herbal Bed’ – will have a selected run at Brighton’s Theatre Royal from Tuesday 22th – Saturday 26th March 2016.
Since opening night at the start of the tour, the play has received outstanding four star reviews across the board from big hitters like The Telegraph, The Times, The Independent, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Daily Mail.
In its original inception the play had a knock-out performance on Broadway and the West End winning an Olivier award nomination, with its writer Peter Whelan winning Playwright of the Year.
Known for her performance as Mary Rivers in Jane Eyre, Bella Gregson in Cranford, and Margie Drewe in Downton Abbey, award-winning actress Emma Lowndes will now lead the cast and play the most famous man in England’s daughter.
The play will also feature an original score by Icelandic composer Valgeir Sigurðsson known for his previous collaborations with Bjork and Damon Albarn.
