It’s that time of year again!! Where we finally admit that we aren’t going to get a late heatwave and that Autumn is finally here. I love everything to do with Autumn, from the cold mornings to Halloween, I also love Autumnal fashion. I know everyone’s minds are probably still on the Spring/Summer lines from the past few fashion weeks but I’m going to take you back to the present day and the abundance of tweed and suede that is hitting the high street right at this very moment.
There are a few staple pieces you have to have in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe this year, and the most important thing about these pieces is that they are all about comfort. Heritage Fabrics are a big thing this season with an abundance of tweed and plaid hitting the high street, and the catwalk.
“One of the great things about Brighton is the infinite amount of vintage and second hand shops scattered across the Laines, meaning that you can get yourself a gorgeous Shearling coat that was made when they were on trend the first time around.”
One of the best investments you could make this season would be buying a Shearling coat. The seventies have made a massive comeback recently, flares are unashamedly storming fashion week leaving every skinny jean lover feeling chilly at the ankles, and the resurgence of the Shearling coat is included in that comeback. Not only is the Shearling coat one of the new must haves, it is also does the job of keeping you protected from the cold. One of the great things about Brighton is the infinite amount of vintage and second hand shops scattered across the Laines, meaning that you can get yourself a gorgeous Shearling coat that was made when they were on trend the first time around.
Another classic piece this season is the cable knit jumper, the chunkier the better. Knitwear dominate the catwalk during A/W15 but for instant comfort and practicality, the cable knit jumper is the way forward. A simple cable knit will go with everything from shirts to dresses, and teamed with a Shearling coat, you will never feel the cold. I have found many a cable knit in my hours I’ve spent trawling through rails and rails of second hand clothing and they tend to be much cheaper than if you went into your standard high street store.
Although it seems that masculine, oversized items are making a comeback this season, the
revival of the skirt suit is one that has everyone talking. The skirt suit is nothing new, and for a long time was nothing to really shout about but this season has given it a unique spin making it more interesting than usual. Sticking to the English Heritage trend, invest in a tweed skirt suit to ensure that you not only do you own this seasons trends, but also own the office. The only thing that should be teamed with a skirt suit is this seasons over the knee, skin tight boot. The over the knee boot should be a staple in your wardrobe this winter, and teamed with everything from the skirt suit I mentioned above, to your evening wear, the tighter the boot, the better.
So there are some Autumn/Winter trends to keep your bank account empty, for now anyway. Happy shopping!
